Who We Are and What We Do

Numbskulls is a 1952 PD-4103 and is one of the most iconic bus types ever built having a starring role in movies, television shows and television commercials. There were only 600 built in ’52 and 900 built in ’51 AND 1 converted by GMC from a PD-4102, to make a total of 1,501 ever built!

This bus has seen many miles and had many, many adventures! She was purchased in 2012 by Kelli and her son, Christian, from the epoch couple, Cat and Dallas Farnworth. They had converted it and lived in it until Dallas grew ill and they had to give it up.  All of the wood work you see inside was lovingly built by the incredible Dallas. When Kelli and Donnie brought the bus back to life, they couldn’t bear to tear out Dallas’s work!

Numbskulls had over 1 million miles in 1962!! Imagine! That was 56 years ago!  The Odometer doesn’t go that high, but Dallas had kept all the maintenance records and the mileage was documented up to that point.  After that, it doesn’t show, so really, who knows how many miles she has.  The amazing thing is that all the mechanics are original and are in excellent running order!

It started out as a National Transportation bus carrying travelers from coast to coast.  The top speed is 65.2 m.p.h. which seemed incredibly fast at that time. That just goes to show how relaxed and laid back the 50’s were!

She is 35’ long and 8’ wide, with the original mechanics that include the powerful, ever-lasting Detroit Diesel 6-71LA39 and Spicer/GM Manual, 4-speed with equally spaced "road" gearing, which takes a master to drive, like our drivers.

She Originally had 16 or 18 double reclining seats, 5 rear lounge seat totaling 37 or 41 seats depending on what configuration Trailways ordered.  Read all about the pd-4103 here:

Sit back and enjoy the ride and thanks for choosing Numbskullsbus, here’s to a million more miles!
